Club Washers

We recently put out two new golf club washers near the range tee and the practice green.  These are a great amenity and allow you to give your clubs a quick polishing after practicing on the range, or coming in after a great round on the course.  We have had a few problems with trash being put in the club washers and we ask for your cooperation moving forward to keep the new club washers trash free, thank you.

Sod In, Sod Out

The drainage project on #3 and #15 is nearly completed.  An of area fairway on #3 that was notorious for poor drainage was regraded, and additional drain lines were installed.  The new drain lines run from the newly graded area to a drain that runs the length of the fairway on  hole #15.  The regraded portion on #3 fairway was resodded this past Friday using bentgrass sod from our nursery here at PRCC.  We will reseed our nursery very soon and get some more bentgrass growing to use on future projects.

Cleaning it Out

The dump clean-out project has been going on for the past number of years, however today we had some new equipment come in to help us out.  A bulldozer and a small excavator were brought in today to start leveling off the surface of the dump, as well as clean the outer edges where various debris and soil have accumulated over the years.  There will be a lot of usable soil when the excavating is finished that we will use here on the course for a number of projects and improvements.

Sod and a Storm

The golf course received over 2" of rain last night, closing the course for the time being.  The only good news from that is, we were able to get down our 24 pallets of sod and finish #1 descent before the rain came.  As you can see from the photo below the new solid stand of Kentucky bluegrass in #1 descent has a more uniform appearance than the mix of turf species that was there before.

As for the storm that came through last night, it dumped 2" or rain and hail in roughly two hours.  The course had numerous areas of standing water which we have be begun pumping.  Below are some photos of the hail last night and of the course this morning.

Broken Tee Boxes

Your used broken tees on the par threes now have a new home.  Over the winter one of the many projects we worked on were the construction of the broken tee boxes.  We made five boxes, one for each of the par threes here at PRCC, and just put them out this past weekend.  They are made of the same ipe (pronounced e-pay) wood that our benches and sand & seed boxes are made of, so they tie in nicely with the rest of the tee amenities found on the course.

Musical Sod

The existing turf on #1 descent is being moved to sod the mound between the dump and #10.  The descent on #1 will get new sod in the upcoming week (weather dependent).  We are moving the existing sod due to segregation of turf species that have become quite distinguishable in the spring months.  The new descent will have one species of turf (Kentucky bluegrass) and will have a cleaner and healthier look than what was previously there.

Caddy Staging Area

The brick paver patio near the practice green is finished.  The patio will serve as the staging area for caddies as they wait to go out with players during the day.  Before hand, this area of turf had constant foot traffic from caddy staging, and from players alike using the practice green.  Combined with a large amount of shade from the maple trees, it was very difficult to grow a healthy stand of turf in the area.  The patio is a great alternative and blends in nicely with the existing pavers near the proshop.
